The Crossbreeding.co.il is a catalogue site of imported bulls' semen, mostly from Norway and Canada.

The famous Israeli Holstein cow is combined of few breeds, which were add along the years to the local "Baladi" (local) breed.
The first step initiated with the first European settlers even before world war I, a century ago. They bred the Baladi breed with the Damascus breed to create a highly fertile, with higher milk yield cow. By using measures of in-breeding this local breed evolve furthermore.
The next step was adding other breeds from abroad, such as the Dutch cow, the Holstein cow and some American breeds, in the early fifths of the last century.

At the meantime, Israeli breeders went on with the inbreeding and developed the herd towards very high milk yielding cows.
Crossbreeding is a quality arises from a mixture of 2 distinct breeds.
An offspring of such a mixture termed the F1 generation and it express, phenotypically, the dominant traits of each of its parents.

The "Norwegian Red" from Norway, these bulls are genetically far from the Holstein breeds so crossbreeding with those would yield higher effect on the F1 generation. These bulls bearing the traits of easy calving, good body condition, strong legs, adjustment to extreme weather conditions, high fertility rate and high percentage of milk solids (fat and protein).

The Canadian Holstein are much closer to the Holstein, but they differ from other Holstein cows by their big skeleton, high milk solids and easy calving traits.

When I choose bulls to this catalogue, I give a lot of thoughts on "non-productive" traits, such as easy calving, body condition, good legs, food efficancy and resistance to metabolic and udder diseases. Adding those characters to your herd can decrease your expenses on health problems and increase your income from each cow.
